Overview
To become an Education, Training and Development Practitioner is a long and fulfilling career. The NQF level 4 Further Education and Training certificate offers prospective Practitioners an entry level into the ETD Practitioner field.
This qualification consists of four study schools. This programme takes the learner from a zero base through entry level coaching to proficiency as a Practitioner. The fundamental unit standards provide prospective Practitioners with the basics that is required to become a proficient Practitioner.
This programme is also designed to provide practitioners with a solid foundation to enhance the quality of skills development provision. It provides an entry level towards the National Certificate and a stepping stone to the Diploma level.
Study School 1: Mentoring
The first study school provides competence in Mentoring. Delegates will learn how to identify learner needs, how to give support to learners to define objectives, clarify issues, to prepare for and cope with learning. They will also learn how to communicate facts, concepts, ideas and principles related to occupational learning programmes.
Study School 2: Skills audits and Facilitation
In this study school, learners develop the competence to plan and prepare for specific learner groups. It focuses on the delivering of the training in group contexts. It teaches learners how to carry out basic skills audits and how to profile learners. These skills are enhanced with effective and efficient communication skills.
Study School 3: HRD Management Practice
In order to facilitate an integrated and coherent approach to people management, learners need to know how to carry out course administration, how to recruit new employees, how to measure productivity, how to manage finances and how to apply statistics and probability to interrogate data.
Study School 4: Coaching
Delegates learn how to coach learners on a one-to-one basis. Part of the coaching process involves basic mathematical skills. It also provides learners with an understanding of the South African Education system, outcomes-based education and skills development in the industrial world. Coaches must know how to communicate effectively and clearly.
Study School 5: Productivity
Delegates learn how to identify factors that affect productivity and how to measure productivity. Important also is how to communicate the results accurately in written and verbal form.

Assessment and certification:
The training consists of four study schools for which four portfolios have to be submitted. Upon completion of all four portfolios, learners will be required to write a one-and-a-half hour integrated theoretical exam. A FET Certificate: OD ETD Practices – NQF level 4 – 122 credits – NLRD 50332 will be presented to the learners who achieved the required level of competence. This certificate qualifies you to enrol for the National Certificate in OD ETD Practice NQF Level 5 – 121 Credits.
